Botany Library
Auckland, New Zealand

Auckland Council required a fit-out for their Botany library. Having worked on the original design for the space, the Council partnered with us for this refresh.

The library's new interior design is contemporary and functional. In alignment with the original concept and intent to be a 'retail' environment, the space enables librarians to mingle with visitors, assist them with their purchases and help them source information and ideas. A refreshed palette of pastel colours and finishes helps to soften a commercial 'retail' feel.

The new facility accommodates two simulator rooms, offices, workshops, and training classrooms. These simulator rooms have been designed to precise loading requirements and feature in the exterior form of the building as towers.

Elements such as places for study or research, children’s activity area and teenagers section remain. In addition to these, our team identified an opportunity to provide a different type of study space, particularly for teenagers. As a result, a new series of study pods have been introduced. These semi-enclosed carrels are suitable for collaborative small group study and compliment the peaceful place concept of the original library. The pods have proved to be very popular with users since the build.
