The Ceramics Laboratory facilities in RMIT Building 2 cater for the final production stages of ceramics glazing, firing and finishing activities. This project identifies and resolves the lack of end-to-end process management for effective production sequencing, an attribute of haphazard growth of equipment and storage requirements. Undertaking a best-fit analysis plan, the project objective was to improve student facilities, increasing capacity and OHS compliance.

GHD Design's design provided a substantial improvement of the teaching facility, delivering health and safety and compliance improvements and reducing energy consumption with the replacement of old technology with modern regulated gas kilns. The project also provided an enclosed workspace for technical staff that gives visual access to the whole workshop and facilities allowing a safer and more efficient workspace.
