The new ferry terminals have been designed to address Brisbane City Council’s aspiration to create transport nodes that are integrated into a broader ferry network, with the terminals making a positive contribution to the urban fabric of the city.

During the 2011 Brisbane floods, many of the existing ferry terminals were wiped out by flood waters. Significant material research was undertaken as the materiality of the ferry terminals needed to be highly durable and able to cope in a marine environment

Key elements of the design include a kit-of-parts approach to ensure that each terminal responds to its unique site conditions yet maintains a consistent look and feel across all the terminals. CPTED has been considered from the earliest design stages as passive surveillance of all public areas was critical.
